The next morning the movers came and made chaos. They unpacked and unpacked and unpacked. Finally they left so that afternoon dad got all our beds set up. So in a slow process we got most of our things unpacked and now we're here.

My Rocket

Alex Schueth
Age 8

I bought a single stage rocket Monarch kit by Estes. The rocket is 17.25 inches tall, and has a .98 inch diameter shaft, with a 12-inch recovery parachute system. I painted the nose cone red and the cardboard shaft and balsa wood fins yellow.

Launch #1: We did it on Friday, 6/22/01 in a parking lot. There was no wind. It was about 82 degrees. When I launched

my rocket, the wadding came out but the parachute didn?t open, it came down really fast and it crashed. We came up to it, it had 2 fins cracked and the paint was scraped off on the top of the shaft. It came down about 60 or 70 feet away from where we launched it. The rocket went about 400 feet in the air; I used an A8-3 engine with 2 pieces of wadding. I launched the rocket at 9:20 Am in clear skies. I was kind of sad that the parachute didn?t open but was glad that the rocket wasn?t demolished.

Launch #2: We did it on Friday, 6/22/01 following the first launch. After the disaster of my first launch, I tried increasing the wadding to 3 pieces. I launched my rocket, the wadding flew out and the parachute opened, it came down with nothing wrong. It landed clear across the parking lot from where the launching pad was. The rocket went about 370 feet in the air using an A8-3 engine. I launched the rocket at 9:45 am. After these two launches, I needed to glue the cracks in the fins before my next launch.

Launch #3: We did on Saturday, 7/14/01 in a
parking lot. The wind was out of the south at 10 to 15 mph. It was a partly cloudy day about 88 degrees. We angled the rocket at a 75-degree angle to the south. I launched the rocket, my grandpa thought that it was going to far south but then the parachute opened and the wind blew it back to us and my dad almost caught it. It ended up only 20 feet from where I launched it, which was really cool, because that is what we were trying to do. It went about 330 feet in the air using an A8-3 engine. We put three pieces of wadding in the rocket. I launched the rocket at 5:10 p.m.

Launch #4: We did it on Sunday, 7/29/01 in a field close to a parking lot. The wind was out of the southeast at 10-to15 mph. It was a clear day, about 90 degrees. We angled the rocket at a 75-degree angle to the southeast into the wind. I launched my rocket, my mom thought that it went to far SE then the parachute opened and the wind carried it way behind us and it slid onto the parking lot, scraping all 3 fins. It landed about 100 yards north of the launch pad. It went about 750 feet in the air; I used a B6-
